I use a Transport for London Oyster cardholder for my unshiny plastic, which lives in a side pocket in the bag I always travel with (next to my Tesco's card), and I then whip out just as clear security. So long as it doesn't rub against something else too much the details will remain intact. Though to be honest it's rare to come across an agent who checks the details.
