As small as Tasmania is, it's also big enough to warrant staying in each place rather than trying to commute back to Hobart every night.

Some of the more remote places that make Tasmania special are tricky to get to; in a straight line it's close but with windy mountain roads, it can easily take 3 times as long as you think.
