He has actual seat time 2mm+, so that means the miles don't expire?
He isn't very knowledgable in MP, as like most who fly that much; he never made his own reservations and I'm new to flying routinely, for business.
My main goal was to try and gain his status, as my company won't even pay for Economy+
We also wanted to obviously keep the miles for family who doesn't routinely fly
No, his 2MM does not mean the miles don't expire. If there is 18 months of no activity in the account they will expire and go away. Any activity will keep them alive. Redeem for a ticket or upgrade. Get the Chase UA Explorer Credit card (Your father as it is his account) and then they will never expire as long as the CC account is open. You will not gain his status using his miles. There was a glitch for years where the status carried over to the recipient of the award but that is going away soon. And actually, quite a lot of us that fly that much make our own reservations. So use the miles from his account for award tickets or upgrades as that will avoid a lot of the fees, like re-deposit on canceled awards, close in booking for awards booked less than 21 days before departure. But leave the miles where they are.
