Booking air tickets is getting trickier

Not so long ago, I'd check on air tickets for my travels as soon as I got whiff of a travel plan with my partner. I wouldn't buy immediately, but I'd just continue observing until work leave and such details got worked out.

Then not so long ago, I began to understand that airlines track my movements and searches, such that they might actually increase prices when they know I'm coming back to check for the same trip and dates.

Is this true, and is it ethical? I've only had one occasion where it happened to me, but I've had 2 other people tell me similar stories.

I don't like to sit around waiting for the time to book to actually book! I want to have an idea of ticket prices (some of us have to save, no?) without the airlines taking advantage of me and bumping up prices. I thought of hiding my IP address, that sort of thing. But I'm not sure since I am not that tech-savvy. Any ideas?
