FYI - ended up just using UA miles to go from HDY to DPS to RGN to KMG - at 65k for 2 people, it ended up being 1.4 cents/mile versus taking low cost Asian carriers, paying for bag fees, not sitting in *G lounges, and worrying about bags/weird connection times. Much better.
