I ended up sitting in an old biz seat. The station manager told me that indeed F-seats were sold online (he did not mention a price), and the remaining seats were then offered to anybody some time before departure. Which means that a HON booking his ticket two days before departure needs to sit in an old biz seat when F is booked full. This would not have happened in the early days of the HON program.
