As to the color(s), they complement the new interiors and are distinctive. There's already some red and blue in the cabin. Against that, the icy blue stands out and references the new AA brand image. (There's something old in it too since it is still one of the colors in the gradient that embellishes the side panels of the 767's.)
I noticed the paneled sleeve, but the stitching looks like it could stand to be a bit more robust. In general, I think the look harkens back to their earlier days, or what their earlier days would've been if they hadn't gone for the eye candy approach then.
I think they can make these work, and make them work well, but they need to invest heavily in heavyweight, high-quality fabrics, which'll help maintain form; excellent build quality in stitching, zippers, and buttons, which'll make the uniforms look more refined and hold up better over time; and plenty of tailoring for each employee.
As far as color goes, I think the underlying issue is that nothing about this outfit says American. Maybe color isn't the issue; the Facebook post somebody linked to here mentioned a distinctive, but gray, hat that was part of the old uniform, which wouldn't be a bad touch.
