Before I had my travel agent print my NWA ticket I called Continental to confirm that discounted B-fare (non-published) is elegible for upgrades using my Continental miles and as per the CO rep "we go by the rules of NWA so you have to contact them".
So I contacted NWA and as per the NWA rep "we go by the rules of CO however we do check availability". I have been going back and forth about 4 times and decided to give up on them and change my ticket to an H-fare which saved me and my wife together 600 US$ except I won't get an upgrade to business.

Maybe some other time.
