The big stuff, which takes weeks, is scheduled months, if not years in advance. Therefore they will know when one's coming up, and de-schedule the aircraft for 1-5 weeks (rather than cancel, which would be for technical issues).
Exactly the same as British Airways (BA) Limited. Two aircraft, both doing a return to JFK from LCY. When a C-check comes up, they simply offer one flight per day for a while.
