My TH was successful last week in upgrading a W fare to a Clubworld ticket on a AA numbered BA flight (SEA-LHR) for a mere 12.5K in miles.
I seem to be flummoxed in my attempts. I have a flight next week (SEA-LHR) in the correct fare class (B) and with AA numbered flight to be eligible for an upgrade to W, but it seems that BA is quite stingy about letting this happen. There are a fare number of seats left for sale.
Is my best strategy to continue to call AA to see if something opens up? I hate to be a pest, but I have done three legs in WT- in the last month and I could use a little TLC.
Here is the advice I received in the past (from BA):
1) Register for a ba.com account
2) Go to this page:
https://www.britishairways.com/trave...n_type=STD_RED
3) Try to "book with avios" into J on the flight you wish to travel.
4) Availability for upgrades and availability for award travel is exactly the same. If it shows a seat available then call in and request the upgrade.
Note: BA seem very stingy in opening up upgrade/award travel. A recent flight had no upgrade/award travel available in J but only 8 of the 30 J seats were occupied.
