Since flying throughout Europe is such a boondoggle and "random" in terms or rules and approaches with respect to airports (way worse than NA or Asia IMHO), I have always made it a point to fly the airport's flagship carrier (or one of its hubs) to avoid many "challenges". When it comes to AC, if I know the particular European airport allows for AC perks such as priority check-in, priority security, priority boarding, and lounge access, then I will often book AC.
Otherwise, it is flagship or flagship hub of the airport.
Flying in Europe sucks.
I've found that MUC and LIS are my favourite European airports by a mile. After getting stuck at FRA for 14 hours one December day, I'm hesitant to return unless totally necessary.
