I had no trouble last month getting a business class award flight on QF out of Australia.
Have you considered that others may have already gotten awards They are available from 354 days out.
QF does not fly around the world. You must use partner airlines for many flights.

If you are trying to use any OneWorld airline freq flyer miles/points on an award on QF availability is about the same.
