Based on what is in this thread, I understand that it is a legal but probably risky connection. What I am trying to ascertain is how much of a risk it is.
I have asked a question on the KL Board regarding people’s experience of arrival on KL621 specifically but would welcome your views based on your more general experience of international connections at ATL around that time.
I had a look at what international traffic would be arriving roughly around the same time, and this is what I found:
Long-haul:
- 1xDL 764 from CDG at the same time as my flight arrival;
- 1xBA 777 from LHR 40 minutes before my flight arrival;
- 1xDL 764 from LHR 90 minutes before my flight arrival;
- no flights from either Asia or South America.
Short/Medium-haul
- 2xDL 737 (from MEX and SJO) at more or less the same time as my flight arrival;
- 4xDL 757 (from SJO, GUA, LIR and MBJ) and 1xDL 737 (TGU) roughly 90 minutes before my flight arrival;
On the plus side, I will be in business on both legs and could do hand luggage only if that helped.
On the minus side, I am not a US citizen and will have to be in the "visitors" queue at immigration.
Like the previous poster, I have a short (1h30) INT - INT transfer in ATL (MEX - ATL - LHR) arriving at 4 pm on a weekday. Both flights are on the same Delta booking but the LHR flight is operated by Virgin Atlantic. I am not particularly comfortable with the short transfer time but I am stuck with it. My main concern is my hold luggage, but I have heard that on some flights from Mexico hold luggage is checked through onto the outgoing flight without having to re-check it. Is this true or just wishful thinking on my part?
