Appreciate it's differnet scenario and automated messages but I had 4 flights cancelled next summer giving me the option of rebooking or getting a refund. The rebooked flights are either at exactly the same time (but a differnt flight number) or within 5 mins of the original flights. Yes, as said, it's officially a cancellation but I could if I wanted to completely change flights or cancel etc.

So, worth trying to call them as not sure there are strict rules around "if it's a change beyond x minutes, pax can rebook".

This is the wording from the AA website:

When schedule changes are implemented by American Airlines that are unacceptable to the customer and result in a change of 61-120 minutes, the customer is eligible to receive a voucher for the ticket value. For schedule changes of more than 120 minutes, the customer is eligible to receive a refund to original form of payment.

Details from here.

There is a significant difference between a schedule change and a cancellation. For a cancellation (and a replacement flight) the details above don't count and I'm pretty sure the passenger has the option to cancel regardless of timings.
Hadn't seen that and didn't know that - never stop learning on here. Thanks for posting those rules.
