If the OP could provide a little more information as to what type of resort and activities they are looking for, we could help steer them to resort or nice Marriott property. Preferred location (ocean, mountains, etc) would help as well, the east coast is really general.
Marriott has a skewed definition of a resort. For example, on Marriott's website, all of the properties listed as resorts in South Carolina, Virginia, and New Jersey are time share properties offering standard hotels rooms as well as 1 to 3 bedroom villas with a full kitchen. Other than a couple of pools, all vary in amenities (restaurant, bar, room service, spa, etc.). I would hardly classify these properties as luxury resorts. Large convention hotels in Orlando, Dallas, San Antonio, Nashville, etc. are also classified by Marriott as resorts. While most of these hotels probably offer the amenities you are looking for with spas, golf, multiple restaurants, etc., they can be very crowded when a large convention is booked and most run short of the pampering one would be looking for at a luxury resort.
