Found a cheap sameday return to Dublin. £10 off for 1500 avios so 0.67p as you say. total fare (with discount) is £70 (is this as cheap as it gets in terms of same day return?).

An RFS would cost 9000 avios plus £35 - so thats 7500 avios (9000 - 1500) for a saving of £35 = 0.46p so I don' the above is such a bad deal. (yes I know the fare rules are completely different but for someone like me who more often than not does not need to alter itineraries this is not so bad)
An RFS costs you 9000 avios plus £35
If a cash ticket costs £70 + 1500 avios - 2000 avios (earnt on the flight) it's actually £70 - 500 avios
Or a cash ticket costs £80 - 2000 avios (earnt on the flight)

The RFS is the worst deal, selling 9500 avios for £35, or 11000 avios for £45. That's too low a return even for me.

On the other hand the RFS I did to London last week was £35 + 9000 avios and the other options was £200 on the train, £230 on VS or £350 on BA, so a saving of £165 for 9000 avios, or 1.83p per avios, and the benefit of flying rather than train. Some on this board would claim it's a saving of £325 for 11500 avios, or 2.8p per avios, but that's because people rarely think rationally when working out their "savings" when using avios.
