I have had duty free purchases accepted. However, the amounts were in line with in-flight food and beverage charges, i.e. several 9 USD charges, rather than one 300 USD charge. The airline (Finnair) sent in their legitimate F&B charges this way. I think a lot of your success has to do with the agent with who you speak and how you react to any questions.
