As far as we can recall, 1A is just fine.
However, the proximity to the galley with the curtain opening and closing could be annoying if you want to sleep. That's the reason we went for 2A and 3A. If you're tempted to switch seats please remember that 5A has no window.
We can confirm the comment from Chowtime. The ovens on the 787 leave food much more palatable.
