Sheratons tend to be old and shabby.
In my experience, the number of old and shabby Westins is about the same as the number of old and shabby Sheratons.
I tend to avoid Westins because of the ever-present stench chemicals (euphemistically called a "signature scent") floating around.

Other than the lounges, I view Westins as more business-oriented and Sheratons as more of a "family" brand.
