FF credit on code-shares

I recently flew from Krakow to Paris on an Air France ticket that was operated by LOT. Thinking "Skyteam" I gave my Delta number at checkin and they dutifully entered it on my boarding pass (which says AF1847 not LO)

It's been a few weeks, so I wrote to Delta and asked them. They said no credit for LOT flights because they aren't a Delta international partner.

Seems like a strange quirk of the alliance... I assume if I was in Frequence that I would get Air France credit.

Can anyone help me understand? Not that I'm questioning Delta's customer service, just questioning how the alliance works w/r/t codeshares on other airlines.
