Yes and no. I've been invited up front several times pre 9/11 on different airlines. And post 9/11 I've been invited up on airlines such as BA and UA while on the ground. I even sat in the co-pilot seat of a new BA B-787 for quite a while after we landed. I was told in both those cases that UK and US regulations prevented them from inviting me up during flight, with the BA pilot even remarking that he would be sacked immediately if he tried that!

But perhaps France has different regulations and as he was landing at CDG with AF, only French rules apply.
