To me it seems that the biggest negative change is the removal of mileage keeper awards. So you'll need an insane amount of miles to get an award ticket (assuming that this remains about unchanged, which is almost a given seeing that earn rates on credit cards and flights on *A partners don't change).
Overall a negative change IMHO, instead of the spin they give to it.
