I asked a neighbor to do a quick search (on Thai social media/forums) and he didn't find anything specific. He suggested just using the GrabTaxi app, enter your destination (Pattaya City) and see if any nearby taxis bite. They may call you to negotiate a fixed fare. Depending on your exact location in Bangkok, and your exact destination, this might range from 1,000 to 1,350 THB, exclusive of tolls. Most taxis here run on CNG, so they can't go all that far without refueling, so maybe expect at least one stop? You can hit the loo and grab a coffee. Flagging a passing taxi to go that far can present some challenges, especially if they are on shift and nearing the hand-off time (typically 04:00/16:00). There are a lot of taxi and private car types hanging about in the tourist areas of Bangkok, but they may ask for closer to 2,000 THB?

I use GrabTaxi a lot, but only for metered trips in/around Bangkok. It is a great service, and almost universally the cars are newer, the drivers are younger, tech savvy and decent drivers. I assume GrabTaxi hasn't caught the eyes of the DLT as it is a dispatch service, of which there are many here, and taxi drivers still benefit.

But if the military junta outlawed GrabTaxi tomorrow I guess I wouldn't be surprised, disappointed, yes, but not surprised.
