Citi will eventually contact you with an incentive to switch over to MasterCard. You're right, it is no excuse. But it may be true, and if you want to avoid this in the future, maybe switching would be the best option.

I don't see the difference between the 2 companies anyways, Visa and MC have always been the primary CC companies in the US, and will still be.
