Just got the same thing an hour ago when I went to check in. Checked a firearm on the way down (as its own piece of checked baggage) a few days ago. Got flagged for special services when checking in today, and will have to check-in in the airport. I tweeted @deltaassist about it (not having seen this thread), and the first question I got asked had to do with if I was checking a firearm.

I have traveled with firearms in checked luggage several times before but this is the first time it's caused an issue.
