- always got annual fees fully refunded as much as 3 months after the fees were posted
- recently a bunch of us received cheques on cancelled cards, due to "sign up bonus not paid out properly"

YMMV

Also "closed" accounts can still be charged, if for example you have some pre-authorized payments that you never bothered to cancel.
