Absolutely. An astute observer using seat-maps in connection w/ or supplemented by other info-- usually expertflyer or the like-- often can be very informative and in no way meaningless as a determiner. Yes, used in a vacuum, can easily be misread/misunderstood-- but in no way meaningless or useless for determining things.
But certainly fair to say, the more knowledgeable and experienced the user, the more accurate any seat-map-reading can be.
