Invited in the cockpit by the captain for landing
I had a very interesting experience the other day flying LHR-CDG-NRT in J
After an uneventful flight from Heathrow, the purser kindly asked my partner and I whether we would like to seat in the cockpit for landing at CDG.
I was quite surprised by this offer since I know it is frowned upon (to say the least) by government authorities, for security reasons, and strictly forbidden in the USA.
Moreover, the offer was extended to the both of us. Anyway we accepted gladly, as it's always a big treat to experience a landing in the cockpit, though we were puzzled as to what had caused this kind invitation by the captain.
Flying in J to Tokyo was not enough of a good reason.
As we entered the cockpit the captain introduced us to the first officer, and the purser showed us the two jump seats to enjoy the view. (Luckily it was a clear sunny day)
After chatting for a while with both pilots, we finally found out why we were kindly invited to join them.
A couple of weeks earlier we were both flying to LAX in First class, and while everything went flawlessly, upon arrival in Los Angeles, our bag was missing.
Nothing exceptional about that, we got the bag the next day, no big deal really.
In any case, the captain and the purser on the flight from LHR had been notified, as well as the one on the flight later that day to NRT, as we found out when the purser again asked us about our "ordeal"
I was very impressed by this very customer friendly attitude from AF crew members, trying to make our flight a little bit more memorable to compensate for the missing bag. ^
