Had breakfast this morning at a hotel near LHR. At the end of the meal, asked the waitress to bring over the credit card machine. I handed her my UNFCU card and, I'm assuming based on my accent, she immediately handed me a pen, before even dipping the card. She seemed genuinely surprised when the machine prompted for a PIN.
