ANZ did not recognize the AA mechanical letter that the agent in LAX said they would and AA gave me 7,500 miles. I thanked them for the miles and pointed out that I was out $2489 that I already have well over 500,000 so didn't ask for miles. They refuse to contact NZ to see if the cost can be revised, and it seems to me that I am the innocent party. AA did not get me to LAX on time and made no effort to get me rebooked on NZ. Realize it would have been smoother on One World Carrier but one can only get to NZ by going to Sydney and back to Auckland or going Hong Kong and back.

All free advice appreciated.
Unfortunately, AA did it's part. It got you to LAX and tried to help you with ANZ. AA fulfilled their duty, they got you to LAX safely and gave you 7,500 miles as a goodwill gesture, even though they did not have to.

You no-showed to ANZ, so you pay the penalty based on their rules, not AA's. In a perfect situation, 2 hours would have been fine. But this isn't a perfect world.

Had this been on Qantas on CX/JL, you would have had protection and gotten a more sympathetic response from the second carrier.

ANZ making you pay the walk-up fare is rough. Your problem should be with them and how shoddy they are treating you, not with AA.
