My question? If the inbound flt was arriving into New York from London, why did the passengers not have to clear Customs/Immigration? I know it is only a TV show, but why do the writers not do a little research. They could have had the flt come from LAX or anywhere domestic.
All of the guns CBP has would have ruined the plot and not allowed the NCIS to shoot the bad guy. The sterile area is within CBP's domain and outside customs and immigration is a non-sterile area so that would negate the need to smuggle a carbon fiber knife for the killing of an air marshall. That and the power TSA had as an enforcement agency over police and CBP further exposed the flaws in the story.
Movies and TV don't have to deal with reality or the laws of physics. If you look for flaws, you will find them - often within the first 5 minutes.
