Thanks for your ideas.

You are focused on assuring the pin on the chip is updated - that's certainly a worthy goal to achieve eventually in the US.

Since there are so few chip readers in the US, and chip and signature or no cvm take priority over chip and pin for at least now in the US, they will [virtually] always prevent validating the pin any other way than via ATM access.

Thus, I'm hoping that someone has thought of and tested a way to put any card in an ATM and confirm that the pin entered is correct WITHOUT actually doing a cash advance, balance inquiry, or any other transaction that could trigger an ATM or card issuer fee.

The goal remains to simply assure that the pin is correct for at least ATM cash withdrawals using debit or credit cards without actually completing the withdrawal (to avoid fees for simply trying to verify pin is correct) so that it CAN be done when actually desired.

As we know, fixing pin issues while traveling is inconvenient and can range from fairly easy with some banks to impossible (Sun Trust debit card, etc).
