Good luck with that one. I hope it works out for you. It's not just UA but it's AC as well believe me.
My wife and I were transferring to MP from AP this year and we had one booking made with UA but with her AP number ( made before we made the decision to switch. ). It was with a stop over and included 4 segments on UA and 4 segments on OS in paid J. Before departure we realized my wife still had her AP number on the booking so at check in we changed it to MP.
When checking in again with OS we noticed that they still had her AP # so changed it at check in again. On the return we had the same problems and changed yet again. Despite having her MP# on all 4 OS segments they were all credited to AP. The UA segments all credited properly .
We contacted MP, who informed us that they couldn't help because it was OS' error and we should try AC and OS. OS informed us that they couldn't credit MP unless AC would remove the points from AP. They sent a message to AC explaining their error but AC refused to credit them back. Very frustrating as the error was not ours and like you Mrs Fizz missed qualifying for *G by less than 2000 points this year. We could buy miles but it's not worth it IMHO. We always travel together anyway so we won't miss much except the occasional possible CPU ( like tomorrow when I'm #2 on the list and she's #7 with 4 seats available). I shall decline if offered but it's annoying that if they'd been credited properly this shouldn't have been a problem.
So not trying to rain on your parade as I truly wish you luck but can certainly empathize with you.
PS AC also did everything possible to make our switch awkward this year so I wasn't surprised when they said no. Their customer service ethos is as poor as any I have seen in any industry for a long time. 4* airline my *ss.
