The explanation provided by
SDSEARCH is not only plausible, it is almost certainly true. Once upon a time, there was a vague correlation between seat maps and seat availability. Now, seat maps mean zippo.
But, if you don't want to believe, why not call AA and ask. It is hardly in AA's interest to not sell seats.
