Redeemable mileage earning will be based on dollars spent on United and Delta next year. If that's important to you, you will probably want to go with American as they will still use flown miles as the basis for redeemable miles. How much normal (work/leisure) flying do you do in a typical year? I think most would agree that earning status primarily via mileage running is generally not worth the money/effort.
