I tried using 2 of my Canadian VISA cards from different issuers with contactless at Whole Foods in San Francisco the other day and both failed. For one of them that shows pending authorisations online (Chase Canada), it showed up as Declined with a response reason of INVALID DCVI. Their customer service was not helpful in explaining what that meant.

On the other hand, I did an EMV contactless transaction on one of those First Data terminals with no problems.
