Do you have any other flights on this ticket? If you have more than one non-BA flight they use a different reward chart, which is best avoided.
No other flights. I just wanted to check what the taxes were....and then was told this was the cost in Avios. I didn't even bother asking about taxes after finding this out

It should be around 20K one way. But in any case ridiculous.... I should have done more research before transferring points into Avios. They have virtually no options to Western Europe without crazy surcharges other than probably Air Berlin (which for me would cost 64K avios and involve a flight out of Montreal with a JFK connection)

Also a shame that US Airways is leaving Star Alliance and joining oneworld. Can no longer convert aeroplan to US Airways, which at least have options with no surcharges...
