I could have written this - exactly my MO.
If there is something I do want to watch, I actually settle down to watch it 10-15 minutes "late", FF through the adverts, and pretty much see the end at the time it is broadcast live. I've become a master of FF +30 and recognising when to stop it just as the adverts end - the broadcasters give off plenty of "tells".
