Hi,
Curious if the community has thoughts/ideas:
I booked a long-haul Aer Lingus flight is business class using my BA Avios. Call center agent in Delhi booked the ticket using my nickname instead of my legal first name that appears on my passport. (E.g., Miles instead of Milesjamie). I did not ask for that. (For the curious: Agent asked, "you are the one travelling?" And I said yes.)
Anyway, I caught this immediately on the email confirmation, i.e., within the 24 hour cancel window, but BA "change ticket" line can't re-issue where no Aer Lingus award availability (guess I took the last seat), and OneWorld desk says no changes (not surprising to me) where Aer Lingus isn't OneWorld (anymore). Nice BA phone agent said she tried calling Aer Lingus but there is no airline-airline number she is aware of, and their call center won't take her call as an airline rep.
Ideas:
1. I could wing it and see if I get on the plane.
2. I could buy a coach ticket with correct spelling, in case it's a problem letting me on the plane. OK with burning the Avios, even though it wasn't my fault.
3. I could cancel business class ticket and see if it goes back into inventory (anyone have experience with that?) and rebook.
4. I could cancel ticket, and rebook into coach (no business award availability)
5. Aer Lingus web site says you can change names for a fee (wow! didn't know an airline still allowed that!
http://www.aerlingus.com/help/help/feesfares/). Also willing to do that to avoid the issue on day of travel, but Aer Lingus call center says it's a BA ticket and won't touch the ticket.
6. I could go to local airport, where Aer Lingus flies, and ask them to change the ticket / pay fee.
Thoughts welcome!
