From personal experience, the U.S. immigration officers have varying attitudes towards return to the U.S. after marriage without green card status. The officer told me that re-entry with my work visa was invalid because my personal situation and name had changed (I got married) and I should not have left the country (on our honeymoon) before I had my green card. He made us sweat at the airport for awhile before finally relenting and letting me enter.

^ Immigration in the US operates with some pretty strange rules. So absolutely double check. And plan on spending some time in Secondary when arrive.
