I don't think it is as fanciful as you may think. Indeed this summer I had a seat upstairs on the jumbo and the TV did not work. They tried rebooting a few times to no avail. Then just as I tried to go horizontal the seat would not go past 45 degrees. They offered me another seat upstairs to sleep and when it was morning I moved back to my original seat for breakfast.

During breakfast the senior cabin crew lady came from downstairs with her iPad and told me it was unacceptable but I could have a 400 pounds BA voucher or 50,000 Avios to compensate for my troubles.

Given that I hadn't even complained as the crew had been lovely, I was very surprised but grateful.

So perhaps the person who asked the question originally is not very far off the mark?
