I was at the DT Heathrow about two weeks ago and the bill defaulted to USD asked that it be changed to pounds and it was not an issue. At another (non-hilton) hotel they billed in USD and didn't notify me was dinged 3% for the "convienance". I watch these CC screens like a hawk now.
