Some Amish will use public transportation on a limited basis and others will use tractors. I have seen some Amish buggy riders in Buffalo, NY before and in upper Minnesota and can well imagine that they could make it to Canada within a few hours ride in some cases.
I am not sure if people are aware but there is some anti-Amish bigotry to be found too. I have even seen a bit of such in Wisconsin, an otherwise highly tolerant place on the whole.
