I am just trying to figure out how this guy got to Canada in the first place.

As far as I understand, Amish who are traditional enough to avoid any photos of themselves are also prohibited from using any mechanical means of transportation.

Lancaster County, PA is a heck of a long distance from the Canadian border. Did he do the whole thing in a horse-drawn buggy?

Some Amish will use public transportation on a limited basis and others will use tractors. I have seen some Amish buggy riders in Buffalo, NY before and in upper Minnesota and can well imagine that they could make it to Canada within a few hours ride in some cases.

I am not sure if people are aware but there is some anti-Amish bigotry to be found too. I have even seen a bit of such in Wisconsin, an otherwise highly tolerant place on the whole.
