It might be fluff but I wouldn't pass off what he/she says so quickly. Having a smile on your face, a winning personality and a good sense of humor goes a long way. I posted this on the other thread but I'll post it here too:
This lady has a point. I probably shouldn't mention this because I don't want to get anyone in trouble but I recently flew home from Europe first class on a 777. I was in J flying down when I saw some of the same flight crew that flew with me to Europe. I remembered one of the FA's said she liked chocolate when serving our ice cream.
I went to the duty free shop and bought 3 boxes of Godiva chocolate. 1 box for her and 2 for the other FA's. I really didn't expect to get anything out of it but I wanted to be nice. When I was boarding I gave it to the woman (whom I remembered her name). The lady was so surprised. I kind of joked if they were giving operational upgrades to F. After a few minutes she invited me up to F. It was the best $100 I ever spent!
This isn't the only incident. If you go into these things not expecting anything and just do something nice for the sake of being nice sometimes it pays off. Many times I'll get upgraded to the club level or a bigger suite merely by being nice or asking. You'd be surprised at the power of being nice and a nice smile.
Good luck.
