You have to talk to the desk anyway at TPA, but it's nonetheless annoying not to have the car ready at the scheduled time.
Been having this happen more it seems lately. It always manifests itself as:
1. No carfirmation email before arrival
2. Name not on board
3. No cars ready and tons of people milling around the Gold booth with the same problem
4. Quoted a long wait for the actual vehicle, but usually eventually offered something else, always smaller
5. Looonnnggg wait to exit the lot.
BNA has been very guilty of this to me this fall to the extent that I now book Avis at that airport. Tonight, DTW did it to me - their wash systems had frozen up (what do they do in February when it an be way less than 16 degrees F?) and they were very understaffed. Plenty of cars on the lot, but they weren't getting processed. Quoted a 3 hour wait for the booked full size (!!) but eventually offered a Focus with 40,000 miles and slipping gears, but it'll suffice I guess. The Hertz Twitter team credited some points after my complaint and offered a swap by calling the "ERS" phone number (any idea what that is?). Frankly, I'll only swap if it develops more mechanical issues - I just don't have time to do the swap otherwise. No obvious excuse for the 25 min wait to exit the lot - both lanes open, but a bunch of people ahead were taking forever to get processed.
