I noticed this line in the NYT article as well. It's a nice idea to bring the level of amenities more in line with European and Asian counterparts and get better options with the paid lounge memberships. UA's IFCL offerings at ORD were embarrassing. If UA does go through with this, I hope AA follows suit; that is, improve the food in the AC.
With respect to EWR, I'm all for improving the facilities, but not having been there for quite some time, I can only assume that trying to get a seat at any of the decent eateries is near impossible; especially during peak hours. At DCA Terminal B, Gordon Beirsch (sp?) and the other place are packed to the gills. The more options, the better. Now, improve the in-flight experience of the airline! Four abreast in J on the 777, no thanks!
