I think it's certainly acceptable if you are non-disabled and:
1) Have a child with you (or are pregnant).
2) Really cannot make it to another toilet.
I think ultimately though, if you aren't holding anyone up, or aren't likely to hold anyone up, there isn't anything wrong with it.
Despite this though, I always avoid using disabled toilets myself.
