To be honest, United's business class (yes, even the 2-4-2 seating) is good enough for someone like me. It folds flat, I can sleep, I can recline, I can watch TV/movies, I can charge my laptop. It meets those requirements. I'm not big on eating on airplanes anymore, too easy to get stuffed, and there's nowhere to go to take a walk afterwards. Would all aisle access be better? Sure. Is it going to stop me from flying United because I want to go somewhere I've never been before and United offers the best schedule? No. Heck, to go somewhere I really want to go, even coach on the 787 is fine. United's business class has a few major advantages. The ease of access to it via GPUs or miles should not be understated. United's worldwide network also offers itself quite a few advantages in that there are several hundred destinations all over the world which United can take you to. And lastly for me, I'm used to United, yeah, I know there's SQ and CX out there, but I know what to expect on United, I've flown United for years and I'm quite comfortable with them. Last month, I went to London for the first time ever and the plane rides were just fine, nothing special, just fine. It was everything I expected. They got me to London with minimal hassle, just the way I liked it.
