I have been reading this for a while as I am hoping that I will get the chance to see some lava without being a nuisance to anyone. I don't want to see property being destroyed, I don't want anyone to think I am somehow getting pleasure from their misfortune and I don't want to get in the way.
I will wait and see what the situation is nearer the time. I hope if I do come and look that will not make me a bad person.
If nothing on the ground works, you may be able to see the lava from the air. Customers on Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tours in Hilo are reporting lava sightings. It is about $200/person.

Not sure if you are a "bad person" for viewing the destruction from the air.

At least you aren't likely to be in the way.
