I say this as someone who LOVES resorts and beaches (I'm at the pool at St. Regis Mauritius typing this on my iPad), but an entire month at a single resort would make me go insane. I'd pick a region you can explore easily without lots of schlepping back to airports and sample a few properties. Thailand would be fun in January and also offers lots out outdoor/active options.
